The seeder comes with one insert. Most farms find they need at least 2 or 3 different inserts (or more) depending on the crops they are growing. Additional seeder inserts are $75 and can be ordered here.

We offer several standard sizes but can make seed plates with virtually any hole size (up to 8mm) based on your particular needs. This seeding system works best with round, uniform seeds although it can be used with seed as irregular in shape as beet and chard seed. Extremely tiny seed is not compatible with this seeding system.

• 2.0mm to 2.5mm. These are the smallest practical hole size for small seed, including brassicas
• 2.8mm: Recommended for alliums, larger-seeded brassicas and other small seed.
• 4.0mm: Recommended for pelleted lettuce, small-seeded varieties of spinach and beets, cilantro, and other seed that is approximately 3.5 to 3.9mm in size.
• 4.5mm: Some growers using pelleted lettuce seed prefer a 4.5mm hole over the 4.0mm hole. Will also work for many varieties of spinach and beets.
• 5.0mm: Recommended for larger seeder varieties of spinach and beets, seeding alliums in bunches.
• 6.5 or 8.0mm: Recommended for seeding flats of micro greens!

Micro green growers like to use the larger hole sizes 6.5 and 8.0mm to seed flats. Simple and fast!

Every-other-hole seed plates are available to enable you to seed your paper chain pots to get double the in-row spacing (12 inches for LP303-15 paper pots and 8 inches for LP303-10 paper pots).

If you special needs in terms of seed plates, we can make just about anything you need, include different hole sizes and using different thicknesses of material to result in shallower or deeper holes. Custom seed plates can typically be made and shipped within 10-14 days.
